The Dirty Projectors is the project of Dave Longstreth, a former Yale student who left college to become an indie singer/songwriter in the early 2000s. The band is compared to new wave artists David Byrne and Squeeze as well as pop stars Beyonce and Mariah Carey. Their progressive rock sound is often likened to Frank Zappa and Yes, though Longstreth admits he isn't fond of classic and progressive rock.
