Zero Breast Cancer, a San Rafael-based nonprofit organization focused on research, prevention and education will celebrate its 10th Dipsea Hike for Breast Cancer on Saturday, September 22nd, 2012 at 8am in Old Mill Park, Mill Valley. Runners are welcome. Hike is followed by delicious food, mini-massages, prizes and music at Old Mill Park.

Individual and group participants can register online at http://dipsea.zerobreastcancer.org or by calling 415-507-1949. Registration fees are: Adults $35; Students $20; Children under 11 are free. Modest team fundraising goals are based on the number of people participating.

The Dipsea Hike is a community event that raises funds to benefit Zero Breast Cancer - while also raising awareness about the benefits of physical activity in reducing the risk of breast cancer. According to a review of 19 research studies on physical activity and breast cancer risk, there was as much as a 20% decrease in breast cancer risk between those who were most active and those who were least active. The Dipsea Hike is a noncompetitive, all-ages event that takes place on a 6-mile course, including the famous Dipsea steps. It was founded by in 2002 by Annie Fox, a former ZBC Board member, Marin County employee, avid trail runner and breast cancer advocate who died of breast cancer at the age of 35. The event has raised $200,000 in support of ZBC's research and educational programs and over 2,500 people have participated.

Route: From Old Mill Park climb the Dipsea steps up to the celebrated views of Mount Tamalpais, cross the Panoramic Highway and follow the Sun Trail to the Tourist Club (aid station #1). Take the Redwood Trail to the Panoramic Trail, where it meets with Alice Eastwood. Take small set of steps at Alice Eastwood up to Panoramic Highway and the Mountain Home Inn (aid station #2). From there, take Edgewood Ave to the Tenderfoot Trail, to the Cypress Trail and return via the Dipsea steps to Old Mill Park (aid station #3).
