Thursday January 28, 2010-Dex Romweber Duo-6pm

“Dex Romweber was and is a huge influence on my music. I owned all of his records as a teenager, and was thrilled at the fact that we were able to play together recently on tour. [He is] is one of the best kept secrets of the rock n roll underground.” —Jack White, White Stripes

Twenty years on from the FLAT DUO JETS, who created the template for stripped down rock and roll that’s been copped by the White Stripes and a thousand far less clever bands, Dex Romweber has teamed up with his sister Sara (Let’s Active) for the first time on the debut album by the Duo, Ruins of Berlin on Bloodshot Records. The album features duets with Cat Power, Neko Case, Southern Culture on the Skids, and Exene Cervenka. Speaking of Exene, catch the Rex Domweber Duo with her live at the Cambridge Room at the House of Blues later that night.

Thursday January 28, 2010-Exene Cervenka-6:30pm

Somewhere Gone, Exene’s first solo album since 1991, is a sometimes dreamy but always intimate, circuitous passage through folk and country; subdued, but no less edgy than her main band X which she sings and co-writes the lyrics for. Invoking other artists who travel easily between the worlds of words and music like Leonard Cohen and Patti Smith, Exene’s lyrics and immediately recognizable, simultaneously fragile and totemic vocals carry all the passion of X without all the loud. Catch her full set later that night at the Cambridge Room at the House of Blues with the Dex Romweber Duo.
