The Detroit Wig Out will be held on June 12 at the Magic Stick, located on the second floor of the iconic Majestic Theatre complex on Woodward Ave. in Detroit’s Midtown. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. The event will feature Southeast Michigan entertainment, with an eclectic line-up of music, sounds and visual entertainment:

Bands including Mick Bassett & the Marthas, The Wrong Numbers, The Barrettes and Tim Pak, with Jawbone busking in front before the show
Rock ‘n Roll Wig Stroll featuring clothing by Aunt Norma’s Closet online vintage clothing store and wig fashions (interwoven with old 45 records) by Blondie’s Salon in Livonia. Proceeds from the Detroit Wig Out will benefit the Southfield-based National Bone Marrow Transplant Link, a nonprofit organization providing emotional support and information to individuals and families before, during and after a bone marrow or stem cell transplant.

“Many survivors of a bone marrow or stem cell transplant often feel that their needs are invisible,” says Myra Jacobs, founding director of the National Bone Marrow Transplant Link. “The nbmtLINK is happy to be involved in the Detroit Wig Out because it provides an opportunity for these courageous individuals to be recognized and encouraged.”
The Detroit Wig Out is being organized by metro Detroit writer Melinda Clynes, who, in her quest to find a good reason and a fitting venue to wear a wig, conjured up the idea last year. She decided to partner with a nonprofit to make the event beneficial to the community in multiple ways.

While the Detroit Wig Out encourages wig wearing, everyone is welcome, with or without wigs, but a $2 non-wig-wearing surcharge will be collected at the door. Tickets for the event are $10 and available April 16 at the National Bone Marrow Transplant Link office (20411 W. 12 Mile Road, Ste. 108, Southfield) or www.ticketmaster.com. Tickets will also be available at the door.
