Born into a Greek-American community in Cambridge, Ohio, Michael’s Greek roots go back to the village of Karavostamo on the eastern Aegean island of Ikaria, home of his maternal grandparents. He first worked his way to Greece as a deck hand aboard a Greek freighter, trading Greek lessons over strong coffee and backgammon. When not traveling to Greece, Michael teaches English to international students in Berkeley, California, listens to rembetika music after midnight and continues to search out the best sources of Greek olives, feta and retsina. Michael will show slides and give ideas and inspiration for your own Odyssey. He is especially knowledgeable on Central Greece, Evia and the Sporades islands.
