Trikone is proud to host DesiQ2006, a conference on South Asian lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues. Trikone has been instrumental in organizing a couple of historic conferences for the South Asian LGBT community. The first one, Pride Utsav was in 1995 and the second, DesiQ2000 was in 2000. Its time for the third conference, which will also commemorate Trikone's completion of 20 years.

DesiQ2006 is scheduled for June 21 - 24, 2006 in San Francisco, California.

The theme for DesiQ2000 was Unfolding Visions and it focused on issues faced by the community and its vision for the new millennium. Since then a lot has happened. Our queer community has faced some new challenges, dealt with old issues with extra complexities and won some difficult battles. We have also proudly noticed the emergence of a number of South Asian queer groups and organizations worldwide. The queer movements in South Asia have gained astonishing momentum. Yes, it is happening!

At DesiQ 2006, we will be taking a moment to look at the overall picture, revisit the visions from 2000 and formulate an action plan to move forward. This conference aims at encouraging and empowering individuals to get involved and act, as independent contributors or leaders to unify the community towards greater political and social strength.

DesiQ 2006 will provide a great platform to bring together the South Asian queer community, from activists to artists, from students to professionals, from young to old and help us celebrate the diversity within our community. There will be a range of workshops, panel discussions, keynote speakers, informal networking and cultural programs to initiate and facilitate healthy discussions and exchange of ideas. And of course, it will be a venue to meet old friends and make new ones as we all celebrate our ancestry and sexuality. The conference will culminate with a gala banquet and we will participate in the Dyke March and march with a magnificent float at the SF Pride parade on June 25, 2006.
Like past conferences, we anticipates a huge turnout of LGBT folks from across the country and also from outside USA. But a conference of this magnitude will require a lot of planning and the involvement of many minds and hands. So whether you are an activist, an artist, a scientist or a lawyer, this is your forum, your platform to share your ideas with, contribute your visions to and lead the SA Queer Community.

We look forward to seeing you at DesiQ 2006!
