"In this lecture, moderated by the BBC News Technology Correspondent Rory Cellan-Jones, you will have the opportunity to hear from two of the most influential vehicle designers whose work spans the extremes of transportation design. Gert Hildebrand, Chief Designer and Leader of the BMW Mini Design Studio in Munich, will explain his approach to design and the process and experiences involved in the development of the Mini as well as its new variants. We will explore the role and relative importance of strategic marketing and brand development with the engineering and creative design processes.

Moving from mini cars to mega-yachts; Martin Francis is the much sought after designer of mega-yachts for the super rich. When American tycoons, Russian billionaires and Saudi Sheiks are seeking that extra little something in their lives, an even bigger yacht is high on their list of must-haves. Designing one-off luxury yachts for the most demanding clients is a very different process to designing the million selling cars that have individual and personal appeal to each owner; but there is more in common than you might imagine."
