Des Bishop is a London-born Irish comedian who was raised in New York. Originally, his comedy was observational, with most of his jokes based on Irish society. He later began touching on social issues in his stand-up routine and, after being diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2000, Bishop turned his experiences into part of his material. He made his first television appearance in 2000 on the news-based topical show, Don’t Feed the Gondolas. In 2008, Bishop starred in a television show, called In the Name of the Fada, which captures him trying to learn Irish to a standard sufficient to perform a standup act in the language. His live DVD, Tongues, was also released in 2008.
