A group of concerned citizens are gathering at the Aboriginal Awareness Week festivities in Calgary, to draw attention to the unsettled land claim of the Lubicon Cree Nation.

The negotiations have been at a standstill for over 2 years. The United Nations committee that monitors compliance with the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, says that Canada is in violation of its obligations under the Treaty, in a report released on May 22, 2006.

We direct the Minister of Indian Affairs, Mr. Jim Prentice, to resume negotiations with the Lubicon Cree, immediately. We also ask the minister to instruct the Alberta government stop the recent sale, in May 2006, of 1408 hectares of oil and gas leases on unceded Lubicon land.
