"The Desire Line" is an architectural term used to explain the path that people walk, as opposed to where the path is placed. It is also the last part of Deborah Slaters trilogy inspired by Alan Feltus paintings a series of intimate portrayals of women and men. Excited by the emotional resonance in Feltus's paintings, Slater has extracted a world of characters and meaning from his images; she has taken them off of the wall and brought them to life in a powerful new work about choice, loyalty, and desire. To fully realize the creative possibilities of Feltus' work, Deborah Slater has invited collaborators Jonathan Segel (composer and founding member of Camper Van Beethoven); poet Jaime Jacinto; dramaturg Kristin Yawitz; and award-winning lighting designer Allen Willner to collaborate on this original work.
Exploring the abstract nature of emotion is comfortable territory for Deborah Slater Dance Theater. This professional company is dedicated to the creation and production of evening-length works that explore timely social issues using original movement, text and music. Slaters last work, Hotel of Memories won a 2007 IZZIE award. The SF Weekly lauded her ability to take full-throttle acrobatics where theyve never gone before, into expression of the deepest subconscious.
