FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
“The Debacle Concert 2011”
July 25, 2011

KENT (OH)—
Two Nights! 22 Bands!! What could possibly go wrong!?! Plenty more than you can possibly imagine, see and hear during the Debacle 2011! on September 16th and 17th at the Lounge/Backstage Akron (formerly the Daily Double) in Akron, Ohio.
It is happening again! Rising from the ruins of Debacle 2010, it's the biggest local musical reunion of them all is back. It is time for The Debacle 2011- THE Akron - Kent Band Reunion- agathering of maily punk and new wave bands who pplayed in Akron and kent in the '70s,'80s & '90s with afew surpris3es thrown in.
Like last year, fans once again will dive head-first into the music that ignited a generation of late Boomers and Gen X’ers. But this year there are even more bands. 18 of the most influential bands from the Akron and Kent punk/new wave /rockabilly era will perform live with 2 brand new bands and 2 new bands featuring members of 2 legendary bands for a total of 22 bands over 2 nights! This year the concert will take place at the lavishly appointed The Lounge/ Backstage Akron in Akron, Ohio in what is billed appropriately once again as “The Debacle”.

In the Northeast corner of Ohio during the late 1970’s and 80’s an original music scene was thriving in the Akron and Kent area that came to influence the rest of the musical world. If you do not believe us, please refer to the archives of London's New Music Express newspaper. They called our area "the new Liverpool". Bands like The Adults, Joy Circuit, Human Switchboard and The Attitude delivered their musical manifestos in underground clubs like The Bank, JB’s Down, and Mother’s Junction. It was a time before “alternative” and “progressive” were even used to describe this influential emergence of culture and music. If it wasn't Top 40, it was either New Wave or Punk. And if you heard it on the radio, you must have had a excellent radio tuner to pick up those little college stations at the far left on the dial.

But this show is not just for old people. This is a quote from Max Hayden's review in The Daily Kent Stater last year:
"The diversity of the crowd is what made the event so special and unexpected. Organizers knew they would see an older crowd, but were not expecting so many teens and kids to arrive. A significant portion of the crowd was below the age of 30 and showed up just from hearing about all the history and music surrounding the concert, getting a sneak peek into a possible future for them."

“It's interesting to see all the older people acting like they never grew up,” said 21-year-old Danny Wlosowicz. “I wonder if some of the bands I listen to now will be doing something like this 30 years from now.”
The Debacle begins Friday September 16th at 6:00 p.m. with Akron's newest punk bands containing one of Akron ’s oldest punkers, The Vulcanizers. The show closes Saturday September 17th when wildly popular The Unreal McCoys take the stage at 11:30 p.m. The show includes a very rare appearance by the Adults. We are also featuring Queue Up, a new ( relatively new) project for Dennis Yurich, former of System 56 & music director for the 1st U.S. production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch.
And as it would have been in 1987 or thereabouts, tickets are only $8. Profits will benefit The Akron/Canton Regional Food Bank. There will also be food collection barrels ready for donations.
Also, a raffle is will be held for the Dieter Family Benevolent Fund to help them pay for funeral and medical expenses due to the events of 9/6/11 in Copley, Ohio.
