The award-winning Dawn Hampton joins CMDance for Lindy Diversion, a weekend dedicated to the joy of dancing, featuring Lindy Hop, Jazz, Tap and Blues, October 15 - 17.

Dawn Hampton has been singing and performing since she was three years old, and she hasn't stopped performing since. Dawn is one of twelve children in a family that traveled as a vaudeville and carnival act.
Eventually, Dawn made it on her own performing in off-Broadway plays and in clubs. Reviewers called Dawn a "singer's singer" and dubbed her the "Queen of Cabaret." She has received numerous awards for her work including the Lifetime Achievement in Cabaret award from New York's Private Lives, and the Distinguished Achievement Director and Composer award from the Manhattan Association of Cabarets. On top of performing, she has also written and music and lyrics for the stage. More recently, Dawn appeared with Frankie Manning as a dancer in Spike Lee's Film, Malcolm X.

The weekend will provide dancers the opportunity to learn from champion instructors. Steven Mitchell & Virginie Jensen are known for their extremely innovative style, improvisation and musicality and are always looking for new and creative ways to teach. Frida Segerdahl is among the most sought after dancers and instructors in the world. Frida is a member of the Harlem
Hot Shots and now runs the famous Lindy Hop dance camp that she first attended when she was 15, The Herrang Dance Camp in Sweden. Skye Humphries is a renowned swing dancer and instructor. He emphasizes fun, energetic social dancing with strong partner connection, solid technique, innovative moves, and musicality. Skye was a founding member of the award winning Lindy Hop dance troupe Minnie's Moochers, and is now a member of the Silver Shadows dance troupe. Joe Demers and Nelle Hatley have been competing since 2003, and have taken home several National Championship titles while also dancing on the 4-time International Championship team, 23 Skidoo. They have taught all over the United States, Europe and Asia.

Lindy Diversion offers social dances open to the public every night featuring popular national swing bands including one of the most sought after bands in the lindy hop community, NYC's Gordon Webster 7 and The Rhythm Cats. Gordon Webster developed a passion for lindy hop and blues dancing, which has become a significant influence in his life since 2001, in addition to his ongoing creative pursuits as a jazz musician. www.myspace.com/gordonwebstermusic. The Rhythm Cats are a Napa Valley band formed in 1995 by Alan Parks and Jim Adamson when their previous band, Twilight Memories, broke up. They started out as a duo, but started adding more players as the need became apparent. They now perform rockabilly, jump blues and swing as a trio with Mark Larson filling the lead guitar duties and occasionally playing trumpet. More at

All proceeds from Lindy Diversion are donated to jazz dance and music school programming for Denver metro area youth, including Great Kids Head Start. CMDance is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization based in Denver, Colorado, USA dedicated to the arts. Our main mission is promoting the education and preservation of vintage dances from the early 20th century such as Argentine Tango and Swing dancing in the forms of Lindy hop and Balboa. We run several national events that offer classes for all levels of dancers so that future generations will continue to foster the love of these dances. Our school programs include preschool children through the university level.
