This exhibition celebrates the extraordinary bequest of works of art from the collection of David Whitney. A curator, writer and art collector Whitney left a deep impression on the art world when he passed in 2005. This exhibit features a drawing by Roy Lichtenstein, solvent transfer drawings by Rauschenberg, an Oldenburg drawing for a proposed clothespin skyscraper, silk-screened portraits by Andy Warhol and carefully crafted "trompe-l'!il" sculptures of novels by contemporary artist Steve Wolfe. It also includes Ken Price's teacups and small abstract sculptures with their saturated glazes and bright lacquered surfaces that delight and challenge our definition of fine art.
