David Sheff and his son, Nic, share their versions of Nic's meth addiction, and the effect on the entire family. In 'Beautiful Boy,' his memoir of discovering his bright, capable, athletic 17-year-old son's addiction and the painful journey of his recovery, journalist David Sheff shares his reaction, from hiding the truth to sharing it in a New York Times article, in an effort to learn how to help Nic. In 'Tweak', Nic tells his story: "I was ashamed of my behavior, but still I kept going forward. It was like being in a car with the gas pedal slammed down to the floor and nothing to do but hold on and pretend to have some semblance of control. But control was something I'd lost a long time ago."
