Metropolis in Motion presents:

Outdoor Dance Party & Rally

Saturday, February 10th, 2007

noon - 2 pm
Madison Square Park (R,W,F,V,6 Trains to 23rd Street)
** The Dance Party comes at the heels of a 24-hour Dance Marathon. If you or your dance group wants to get involved, please learn more and sign up at www.metropolisinmotion.org. **

Please bring drums/instruments, warm clothing, comfy shoes, friends, and as much energy as you've got!

In New York City, world-famous for our nightlife, it's illegal to dance in all but 200 venues. If the cops catch you dancing, your neighborhood restaurant or bar could be fined or shut down for good. Join us and dance outside in a New York February because we're not allowed to dance inside in most places.

On February 1st, the NYS appellate court is hearing a case in which dancers claim that New York City's anti-dancing laws (the cabaret laws) are a violation of our freedom of expression. The City is arguing that social dancing is not a form of expression. Join us and dance outside of the courthouse to show the judges that dance is as expressive as music, theater, film, and painting.

Momentum is building to change New York City's archaic and redundant cabaret laws. Join us to show media and city council that DANCING IS NOT A CRIME!

** Please do what you can to spread the word. Forward this e-mail, join our e-mail list, and write a letter to your city council member. More info at www.metropolisinmotion.org. **
