Since 1974, Dan Heims has been deeply involved in horticulture. He is the president of Terra Nova Nurseries, a company noted for its many new plant introductions. Heims articles and photography have appeared in a number of gardening magazines including American Gardener, Garden Design and Horticulture. He has taught horticulture courses, distributed and sold exotic plants, and runs his own design and build landscape business.Heims perennial breeding programs have produced many international gold and silver medal winners. He has spoken around the United States and in Japan, England, New Zealand, Costa Rica, Germany, Holland, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Tasmania, Australia and Canada.He hosted a weekly gardening show on radio KKSN in Portland and has appeared on American, Swedish and British television. Heims garden has been featured in Sunset Magazine, Organic Gardening, and Better Homes and Gardens.Heims considers himself to be the original hortiholic. Though a great deal of his time is spent traveling, he is quick to say, The more I travel, the more I stay in Portland, Oregon. I love my life here.
