Cyril Pahinui In-store Performance at Amoeba Music! January 23, 2010

Amoeba Hollywood will host a special in-store performance and preview from the legendary Cyril Pahinui on January 23rd to celebrate the 3rd Annual Southern California Slack Key Festival!

Amoeba is proud to present the 2010 Southern California Slack Key Festival on Jan. 24th at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center. Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar (ki ho'alu) is one of the world’s great acoustic guitar traditions and the festival celebrates both its legends as well as new innovators to the art with their third annual celebration.

Cyril Lani Pahinui has won numerous Hawaiian music awards and two Grammys® and has traveled the world performing ki ho’alu, Slack Key guitar. Like all great Slack Key guitarists, he has developed a distinctive style that is instantly recognizable. His soulful baritone voice is also unique and brings a deeply personal emotion to everything he sings.
Gabby Pahinui (Cyrilʼs father) was one of Hawaii's best-known and most influential slack key guitarists whose 1946 recording is considered the prime influence that kept slack key from dying out in the islands. Cyrilʼs 1988 recording of traditional and contemporary songs won Na Hoku Hanohano Awards for Best Contemporary Hawaiian Album and Best Male Vocalist from the Hawaii Academy of Recording Arts, and he won again in 1994 and 2000 for Instrumental Album of the Year.
