Often compared to watching an intricate dance, the pure athleticism and instinct of a skilled cutting horse is breathtaking to behold. Beginning as a competition between working cowboys for bragging rights as to who had the most “cowy” horse, the cutting horse competition has evolved into one of the largest and most exciting equine events in North America. In the contest arena, the art of the cutting horse comes alive in a classic test of intelligence, training, breeding and skill. In competition, the cutting horse and rider must work together as a team in demonstrating their cattle handling skills. The Calgary Stampede Cutting Horse Competition is a participating event in the National Cutting Horse Association World Series of Cutting, bringing together the most skilled horses and riders from across Canada and the United States as they vie for berths in the NCHA World Finals.
