Chinese New Year meets Mardi Gras in a cross-cultural celebration that includes live music, art, and a free lecture at the de Young Museum this Friday Night. Enjoy an elaborate parade featuring elements of Mardi Gras and Chinese New Year traditions in Wilsey Court at 6:15. The Jumping Buddha Ensemble will perform Western music adapted to traditional Chinese musical instruments from 6:30 to 7:15. Following the ensemble, the Fat Tuesday Brass Band will play the great funk and jazz music of New Orleans. The lecture will be followed by a walk-through of the exhibition Chim: The Photography of David Seymour (1911–1956). On Friday nights, the entire museum stays open until 8:45, and the de Young Café serves a special dinner menu, drinks, and appetizers. Cocktails are also available in Wilsey Court.
