BACKGROUND:
Sponsored by the Sierra Club, Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment, Martin Ogle, and Arlington Coalition for Sensible Transportation, Coalition for Smarter Growth, with promotional support by 94.7 The Globe, this rally is part of a nation-wide effort to raise the stakes on the issue of global warming. Across the country, there will be over 800 similar events, where people will gather at iconic places that will be affected by global warming, if action is not taken soon by government officials. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change says in order to slow and eventually stop Global Warming the country needs to reduce its Carbon Dioxide emissions 2% per year for the next 40 years, or 80% by 2050.
