Isobar Launches Silicon Valley’s First Ever NFC Hackathon at APPNATION III

Isobar “Create 32” Challenges Developers, Designers, Entrepreneurs and Startups to
Build Something Epic using NFC Technology

SAN FRANCISCO, November 14, 2011 — Isobar, a global communications agency, announced today that it is hosting “Create 32,” Silicon Valley’s first NFC accelerator. Isobar Create 32 is designed specifically to explore Near Field Communications (NFC) from a consumer-centric standpoint. This pivotal 32-hour hackathon will challenge developers, designers, entrepreneurs and startups to create like-never-before experiences using NFC. The event will take place on Wednesday, November 30 through Thursday, December 1, 2011 at the San Francisco Design Center, 635 8th Street, San Francisco. Isobar Create 32 is part of APPNATION III, which brings together thousands of developers, carriers, product/service providers, buyers and investors to discuss the rapidly growing global app ecosystem and the unending stream of emerging tools and technologies.

Isobar Create32 is an open call to “creatives” and “creators” to define the future of NFC and find broader uses for this exciting technology. The Isobar Create accelerator platform is an open environment; applications can be programmed on any NFC-enabled smartphone platform to maximize possibilities. NFC experts from eBay-PayPal, Google, Tagstand and other companies will be on hand to demonstrate applications and provide tips on how to program for NFC. After 32 hours of development, a panel of judges from eBay-PayPal, Google, Nokia, Samsung, US Venture Partners and Isobar will deliberate and name the top three creations.

The hackathon follows on the heels of Isobar’s Create 48 hackathon, held in Boston in September. Create 48 was the first and largest NFC competition of its kind in the US to date, drawing more than 40 designers and developers and producing nine working prototypes in 48 hours.

“No technology unites the physical world with the digital world to the extent that NFC can. Our Create 48 hackathon produced some staggering innovations, but we know we just scratched the surface on what NFC technology can really do,” stated Michael Nicholas, Chief Strategy Officer at Isobar. “Create 32 is designed to be a forum for 'creatives and creators' to push the envelope even further. The Isobar Create accelerator platform is designed to rapidly establish an innovation hot house that can quickly transform compelling new ideas into tangible experiences that bring brands and people together like never before.”

Isobar Create 32 is free to participants with registration. For more information, visit: http://appnationconference.com/appnation3/hackathon.php
