This course explores the significance of the differing perspectives advanced by two of the great artists of the 20th century, Pablo Picasso and Marcel Duchamp. Picasso and Duchamp laid the groundwork for an analysis of often opposing technical and social values, as well as the relationship between modern and contemporary art practice. Trace the artists’ careers and their influence on peers and successors through a series of lectures, discussions, and gallery visits.

$275 general; $250 SFMOMA members. One semester unit of academic credit in art history. To enroll, call 510.642.4111 and reference course number EDP026674.
