CONVERGENCE MMXI FILM SERIES - This season in partnership with The San Francisco Film Society|New People Cinema, Artists' Television Access and Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts, the CONVERGENCE Film Series returns with expanded programming with three independent international films.

AUG 31 - "NACO ES CHIDO" @ Artists' Television Access - "Naco es Chido" by Sergio Arau ("A Day Without Mexicans") is a mockumentary about the epic return of the band Botellita de Jerez, who disappeared along with their new record after a fistfight. 20 years later, the infamous missing recordings are found in a junkyard, prompting an investigation in search of the band's founders. SEPT 1 - "THE HOLY MOUNTAIN" @ SF Film Society-New People Cinema - Highlighting this year's film series will be the underground classic "The Holy Mountain" by Chilean director Alejandro Jodorowsky - father of the "midnight movie". Local art performer, Amir Coyle, will give a special pre-film performance especially for this event. SEPT 2 - "EVERYBODY'S DYING HERE" @ Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts - "Everbody's Dying Here" by Ali Gardoki chronicles the daily grind of performing in one of Mexico's few all-female punk bands, Las Ultrasonicas. Compelled by nay sayers and hostile male audiences, Gardoki takes a fearless look at the treacherous underground Mexican punk scene and juxtaposes it to the ordinary travails of the band members' day to day lives. Meet the director! There will be a post-screening chat with Ali Gardoki.
