The first Thinking Conference took place in 1982. A very optimistic teacher at the University of the South Pacific had read some interesting books on Lateral thinking etc. and invited the author, Edward de Bono, to give a talk at the university. De Bono liked the idea to visit Fiji and accepted. The optimistic teacher, Bill Maxwell, was very happy and wanted to exploit the “seminar” further, so he asked authorities in UK, if they could think of sending some speakers to the Fiji seminar. They could, and the seminar grew to become The First International Conference on Thinking with 250 participants from 42 universities.
