Program: Karlheinz Stockhausen, Kontakte (1958-60) Georgia Spiropoulos, Oria (2003) (U.S. premiere) Rand Steiger, Dreamscape (2004)

Featuring: Julie Steinberg, piano William Winant, percussion

Stockhausen reached a peak in his rigorous exploration of unknown sound worlds in Kontakte (1958-60), for piano, percussion, and electronic sounds. Soloists Julie Steinberg and William Winant take stock of this individualistic and influential composer who has so greatly affected the course of contemporary music. Utilizing electronics and extended playing techniques in their music, two of Stockhausen’s creative heirs fashion their own fascinating and mysterious sound excursions.
