The toast of the music blogosphere, touring Toronto singer-songwriter Chloe Charles returns home for one intimate cabaret style show before heading out on the road again.

Toronto art folk singer-songwriter Chloe Charles, smack in the middle of a huge tour in support of her critically acclaimed debut EP ‘Little Green Bud’, stops at home base for a one night cabaret style (seated) show at the Rivoli in Toronto on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at 8:00 p.m.; with guest opener singer, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter Anna Atkinson. Tickets are $10.00, available in advance via PayPal on www.myspace.com/chloecharles, or at the door.

Chloe Charles states, “This tour is enlightening in so many ways and I am grateful for all the fantastic reviews. Road highlights include playing for the first time in Chicago at Reggies Music Joint to a packed room and my new home away from home, Momo’s in Austin, Texas. Also, the complementary performances we did in U.S. retirement homes and assisted living centres were so much fun!”

Charles is currently on the bottom end of a 75-date North American tour (Quebec, Ontario and the eastern half of USA), which continues in 2011 with more dates in the eastern and southern United States and then on to Germany, Italy, UK and more.

2010 was a busy year for Chloe Charles. Prior to the current leg of her tour she had a breakout showcase at the Memphis Folk Alliance, summer dates throughout Europe with touring accompaniment Texas singer-songwriter Aly Tadros, the independent release of Little Green Bud (October 1, 2010) and the first video for the song “Water”.

In addition, Charles recently signed with a new manager Liza Lee of Inherent Artists Management and booking agent TJ Olsen of TM Promotions, both based in New York City.
Charismatic and experimental, Chloe Charles breaks female singer-songwriter stereotypes, drawing from many genres with hints of ethnic inspirations and a pop sensibility, coupled with chamber folk and soul. Classical guitar in hand, accompanied by viola or violin, double bass and unique percussive instrumentation, she receives comparisons to Cat Power, Erykah Badu, Bjork and Joni Mitchell.
The 25 year-old Charles grew up a daughter to mixed-race parents living in rural Claremont, Ontario, Canada and is strongly inspired by her roots (her mother plays classical guitar and her father owned night clubs) and her ties to musical royalty (her father married Cynthia Lennon, so Julian Lennon is her step-brother).

Reviews:

“Now, this was unexpected. Little Green Bud is just a 5-song EP but what a great teaser! Masterfully engineered, it entablatures highly artistic intent executed with grace and ease, a venture drawing in various disparate elements to discover new borders in not-so-familiar modes…” – Mark S. Tucker, written for the Folk & Acoustic Music Exchange (FAME).
“Evocative soundscapes languidly swirl about like windswept snowflakes. Then Chloe’s magnificent voice materializes in the middle of your mind with a warming timbre telling warning tales rife with the learned experience of one who knows. Meanwhile, her acoustic guitar proceeds to gently pluck away at your meagre defences until you finally capitulate.” – Jeffrey Morgan’s Media Blackout, jeffreymorgan.info.
