Bradley A. Stephens, Mayor of the Village of Rosemont and son of the founder of the Chicagoland Pops, the late Donald E. Stephens, along with Brenda Edgar, Chairman of the Chicagoland Pops Orchestra Commission, announced today that three-time Grammy nominated recording artist and songwriter Jewel will perform with the acclaimed 60 piece Chicagoland Pops Orchestra, conducted by Grammy winning artist and Chicago resident Arnie Roth, at The Rosemont Theatre, 5400 N. River Road, on Saturday, October 20 at 8 pm.

The concert will feature a special United States debut performance by Italian pop sensation Nicola Congiu. Congiu is a musically gifted, self taught, singer and performer. At just 30, he is one of the top performers in his homeland of Italy. Nicola "Niko" Congiu has a three octave vocal range - easily handling current pop, rock and soul, as well as opera and classical music. He is the composer and lyricist for many of the songs he performs, singing lyrics in both English and Italian.

Since her multi platinum debut album Pieces of You, featuring hit singles You Were Meant for Me and Foolish Games, Jewel remains a unique and authentic artist, exploring fresh musical avenues for more than a decade. Hailed by The Times of London as the most sparkling female singer-songwriter since Joni Mitchell, her musical talents have taken her from the simplicity of acoustic-driven folk to the embrace of rock, pop, country, blues, jazz and classical influences. Her five subsequent albums have included such well known songs as Hands, Standing Still and Billboard top five single Intuition. Jewels songs and ethereal voice have accompanied several motion pictures including Clueless, Batman & Robin and Sweet Home Alabama (theme song), and her celebrity status has landed her appearances on Saturday Night Live and numerous talk shows

To date, Jewel has sold over 27 million albums worldwide, enjoying career longevity rare among her generation of artists. Among her many accolades are three Grammy Award nominations, an American Music Award and an MTV Video Music Award. In 1999, she was presented the prestigious Governors Award (now known as the Recording Academy Honors Award) from the Los Angeles chapter of the Recording Academy (NARAS). The award recognizes those whose creative talents and accomplishments have crossed all musical boundaries and have been recognized as an asset to our music community.

Arnie Roth, Music Director and Principal Conductor, is known for his work with performers including Diana Ross, Charlotte Church, Peter Cetera, Art Garfunkel, Mannheim Steamroller, and Dennis DeYoung. He has conducted the London Symphony Orchestra, the National Symphony, the Atlanta Symphony, the Hollywood Bowl Philharmonic, the Dallas Symphony, the Houston Symphony, the BBC Symphony and Ravinia Festival Orchestra. Roth has produced dozens of best-selling CDs as well as concerts for WTTW.

The Chicagoland Pops is Chicagos only resident pop orchestra, a professional symphonic ensemble presenting an innovative blend of popular music, classical works and a variety of contemporary genres rock, pop and jazz. The orchestra is made up of the areas finest musicians. This season the Chicagoland Pops plans upcoming concerts featuring nationally known world-class artists.
