In 1898, just after the second annual Frontier Days rodeo, the committee recognized that the American Indian was a good friend and an important part of the wild west... and would therefore make an important and colorful addition to the event. The Indians have returned to CFD each year since then. The visiting Indians always camped on a corner of Frontier Park, and that area became a tourist mecca. Over the years, the site of the campground shifted from place to place. In the 1960s, a permanent campground, dubbed the "Indian Village," was established on the southeast corner of the park, where it remains to this day. The Indian Village also includes a number of Native American exhibit booths and food vendors.
