Music began with song, a mode of story-telling more complete and richly textured than speech alone. Even the smallest wisp of melody, in the words of Mendelssohn, “fills the soul with a thousand things better than words.” The program includes Mendelssohn’s “Song Without Words” for cello & piano; Sebastian Currier’s “Whispers” for flute, cello, piano & percussion; August Klughardt’s “Reed Songs” for oboe, viola & piano; and Schubert’s B-Flat Major Piano Trio, Op. 99. Come along for a wondrous evening of songs by master composers, no words necessary.
