Celebrate birth March 14, 2009

This thought-provoking event will explore different aspects of childbirth and includes:

* Birth Day Theatre presents: Speech to Rita. A humorous and moving drama about the struggle of midwives and mothers to achieve the birth they want. Performed at the Robert Powell Theatre.
* Documentary Film: Born by Andrew Lawrence. By interweaving four individual stories, Born takes us on a journey that examines the connection between birth and death, exploring the role fear plays in childbirth and the ways in which we deal with this.
* Exhibition: Birth Rites. This national exhibition explored the politics and practice of childbirth through art. A number of pieces have been loaned to the Midwifery Directorate and are currently on display.
