In this exhibition, the Museum presents 10 color photographs, including a selection from Opie's most recent series, Girlfriends, which portrays the circle of women--now settled and older--who constitute her personal milieu. Departing from heteronormative models with their unquestioned binaries of masculine/feminine and male/female, Opie explores the nature of "butch-dyke" identity through unsentimental portraits of intimate friends and partners.
