Carmel, IN - The Carmel Plan Commission’s Bicycle Route Task Force will hold a public meeting to discuss proposed routes and circuits on Wednesday, February 27th, in City Hall’s Council Chambers at 6 pm. In an effort to enhance Carmel ’s bicycle network, the City of Carmel and local cycling advocates have worked together to identify a system of bike routes and circuits. With commuters, recreational riders and families in mind, this system has been designed to identify existing streets, multiuse paths, and bike lanes which will best serve to move cyclists around Carmel .

The proposed bicycle network identifies eight cross-city bike routes and five proposed bike circuits, or loops. The proposed bike routes will consist of two east-west bound routes and six north-south routes. The routes are intended for longer trips and will provide access to various destinations throughout Carmel as well as links to neighboring communities. The bike circuits, or loops, will be routes that will guide their users to the same point at which they started, passing some of Carmel ’s best amenities along the way. Each circuit, geared toward casual riders, will offer its own unique riding experience to cyclists by highlighting different areas within Carmel .

It is the Carmel ’s hope that implementing this network of routes and circuits will encourage more people to ride their bikes and create an even better experience for those that already cycling in Carmel .
