Who says that the gritty Tulsa sound can only originate from Oklahoma? U.K. native Lata Gouveia will knock the boots off Tulsa locals as he performs alongside legend Rocky Frisco to celebrate his debut album release Road US-75 at the Eclipse Club on November 5. Lata will share the stage with local favorites Higher Education and Frisco in a show that will ignite an incendiary performance.

Road US-75 tells a story of an artists’ self-discovery. The lyrical content and musical style of the album not only depict a transformational period in Lata's life, but is also sure to resonate with the listener and pull them along for the journey. Lata’s music knows no boundaries, follows no rules, and has an indescribable musical styling, giving it that distinct Tulsa sound.

Lata got his start in the U.S. in 2007 when Rocky Frisco invited him to Tulsa to take his songwriting back to basics. It was here in America’s heartland that he experienced a musical rebirth. “I realized this was my musical home,” said Gouveia. “The music I’ve strived to play all my life belongs to them...a sound and approach which is best described by Okie Red Dirt.”

In Tulsa he felt an instant connection with Frisco and other members of the Red Dirt music scene, such as Tom Skinner and Randy Crouch, who embraced Lata as one of their own. “He visited us in Tulsa last year and was instantly accepted as a member of the Tulsa music family,” said Frisco. “His demos are better than most studio albums. He writes and sings the kind of songs that become people’s favorites, because he seems to know what’s in their hearts.”

In addition to the debut album, Lata is working on a documentary, Woody’s Children, with filmmaker Matthew Lochman that is currently in the post-production stages. Woody’s Children tells the story of a personal, musical and spiritual journey of transformation against the backdrop of Oklahoma’s rich musical history. Upon completion, the documentary will be submitted to various film festival circuits.

Road US-75 is released by Captiva Records. The CD launch performance will take place at the Eclipse Club, located at 1336 E. Sixth St. Doors open at 9 p.m. with no cover charge!
