The earliest historic account of Canada’s official national winter sport dates back to March 1875 at Montreal’s Victoria Skating Rink. Although only six of the thirty NHL franchises are based in Canada, Canadian players outnumber American athletes in the league. Some Canadian New York Rangers include: Stephen Valiquette, Goaltender (Etobicoke, Ontario); Brendan Shanahan, Assistant Captain (Mimico, Ontario); Blair Betts, Center forward (Edmonton, Alberta); and Tom Renney, Head Coach (Cranbrook, British Columbia). Come cheer on Canada during the 2008-2009 NHL Season at Madison Square Garden.
