For grades 6-12. California Shakespeare Theater’s Summer Shakespeare Conservatory is rooted in the same passion for artistic exploration that guides Cal Shakes' Main Stage productions. We ask our students to set aside limits: to be courageous and open to surprise as they immerse themselves in the immediacy and power of Shakespeare's plays. Conservatory students spend the morning studying acting, voice, physical comedy, stage combat, movement, improvisation, text, and more; afternoons are spent in rehearsal where all the disciplines come together to create a fully-realized, specially-adapted public performance of a Shakespeare play on the final day of the Conservatory. The Conservatory offers four sessions in three locations, including Bentley Upper School in Lafayette, Holy Names High School in the Oakland hills, and a brand-new, four-week session at St. Ignatius College Prep in San Francisco. Enrollment is dependent on an interview; no audition is required. Please call to set up a meeting time. Scholarships are available; call for more information.
