Califone is about my favorite band playing today. And if you know me, you know that's saying something. I describe them as Tom Waits' "Gun Street Girl" goes to art school. They are the broken technology blues in a fractured lattice poetry told in off-rhymes of dirt and sincere promise of notorious liars. Or some shit. They just rock. They came from Chicago's Red Red Meat and are related to lots of other cool bands from that town.
