Who says women aren’t funny? Not Comix or Bust Magazine! On Monday, April 14th they proudly present “The Hysterical Fundraiser”, a comedy showcase hosted by Carolyn Castiglia (VH1, MTV2) to raise money for the upcoming Hysterical Festival.

“The festival is a great opportunity for women in comedy and Comix is the perfect venue,” says Kambri Crews, Director of Publicity for Comix. “In addition to me, the two Directors of Programming, the Manager of Operations, our Executive Chef, and Private Events and Group Sales Director at Comix are all women. That’s a lot of women running a typically male dominated industry. Having the Festival at Comix will have everyone saying, ‘Hey! Nice pair of wits!”

Featuring stand-ups, sketch performers, improvisers, cabaret acts, comic musicians, solo artists, writers, filmmakers, burlesque divas and more, The Hysterical Fundraiser gives outspoken funny women the chance to take center stage. Watch these hilarious women with “something to get off their chests”:

Bridget Everett (At Least It's Pink at Ars Nova),
Heather Lawless (Be Kind Rewind, Variety SHAC, Flight of the Conchords),
Mel and El (New York Musical Theatre Festival Concert Series at Ars Nova),
Adira Amram (Upright Citizens Brigade, Jane Magazine),
Ophira Eisenberg (Comedy Central’s Premium Blend, US Weekly Fashion Police, VH1’s Best Week Ever);

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
The Hysterical Festival is the brainchild of comedian/producer Desiree Burch and a series of Sunday afternoon mimosas. Hanging out with a group of female comedians sharing stories, eating junk food and getting bombed way too early in the day, the idea came to her: what if this camaraderie could lead to a comedy revolution? What if what came naturally to her and her friends could change the face of comedy - forever? It might look something like empowerment with a sense of humor. Sexy. Dangerous. Hysterical.
The festival will run for 5 days with a total of at least 30 shows running concurrently across at least 3 venues. Talent will be curated from the NYC and national comedy community with an eye on fresh, original voices and well-known comedy pioneers. There will also be a contest for best newcomer that is open to all women.

Festival events will range from standup shows and film screenings to solo shows, cabaret and sketch performances, storytelling and panel discussions.

The Hysterical Festival aims to unite and expand the community of female artists and their fans and encourage the development of women’s humor, wit and self-expression. Shining a spotlight on the wide range of ways in which women are funny, The Hysterical Festival brings smart and smart-ass women from all walks of comedy together for the first time.
