The nutrition program, administered by Broward Meals on Wheels, is a federally funded program that provides a hot, well-balanced lunch for seniors and their spouses, ages 60 and up, Monday through Friday at the Community Center. CONGREGATE MEAL SITE - LUNCH - Served at 11:30 a.m. for seniors 60 and over and their spouses, for a suggested donation of $2.00 per person at the Community Center. Lunch is provided by Broward County Meals on Wheels. No income requirements in order to participate. You must reserve a meal no later than noon the prior business day by calling Patrick Massaquoi at (954) 724-2544, 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Tamarac Social Services operates as an extension of the Parks and Recreation Department. The Office of Social Services is located in the Tamarac Community Center, 8601 W. Commercial Boulevard.

For transportation issues, to register for our Transportation Program, or to schedule appointments for rides, please call the Transportation Office direct line at (954) 597-3649.

The City of Tamarac provides a comprehensive program of health and social services. An Information and Referral specialist gives information and makes referrals to agencies which can provide direct services for problems and concerns related to social security, housing, long-term care, nursing homes or retirement homes, Alzheimer care and assistance, or health insurance.

For those unable to come into the office for an appointment, home outreach visits can be arranged. A Veterans Advisor and Consumer Affairs Advisors are also available.

Health Services, such as hearing screenings, mammogram screenings, and blood pressure screenings are also offered.

Congragate Meal Sites: If you are hungry, if you cannot afford to eat adequately, if you have limited mobility and are unable to shop or cook for yourself, or if you are lonely and just want someone to share a meal with, then the Congregate Dining Program is available to you.

Congregate meals offer a healthy and convenient option for anyone over 60. In addition to the advantages of a healthy meal that requires no shopping, preparation or cleanup, every site offers social activities. Transportation to many meal sites is free. Seniors can actually improve their health by eating healthier foods, interacting with others and even getting a little exercise
