An event to mark the first “Armed Forces Day” in Brighton and Hove, honours the outstanding contribution made by current members of the Armed Forces, Veterans of all ages and Cadets

Armed Forces Day locally will be staged on the lower prom just east of the West Pier. The spot has previously hosted events including a 2007 gig by the band Razorlight.

Part of national celebrations on Saturday June 27, the event is billed as a family day recognising the achievements of today’s armed forces and veterans.

It is hoped that as many serving, retired personnel and cadets as possible will participate, whatever their age and experience.

Plans are still being finalised but are expected to include:

Have-a-go activities
A parade and military vehicles
Photographic and historical displays
Presentations by the mayor and other local dignitaries
A free-fall parachute team display
Information for veterans
Military band performances
Live Music (Band Tbc)
Cadet Hour, to include cadet displays and awards ceremony.

Also throughout the week at the Brighton Museum:

Did your ancestors serve in the military? Trace them at Brighton History Centre in Brighton Museum. We offer lots of reference sources, historical records and experienced staff to help trace your family tree.

Anyone interested in participating should contact 01273 291215.
