Lovers of world music will be delighted to note that internationally renowned stars will combine in a high-voltage concert on Oct 15th at the Spangenberg Theater, Palo Alto. This is slated to be a first of its kind melharmonic concert at the Bay Area.

5-time Grammy winner Glen Velez, hailed as the father of frame drums gets together with Chitravina N Ravikiran, who began his career as the world's youngest performer at the age of 2 and is today considered to be 'Perhaps the greatest slide instrumentalist today' (Radio National, Australia). Jazz saxophonist George Brooks, who needs no introduction to Bay Area music lovers, will augment the concert in his unique Indo-American style. But there is more.

One of the greatest percussionists of the modern era, Trichy Sankaran, joins them on the double-barreled South Indian drum - the mridangam - while the charismatic Lori Cotler will provide brilliant vocal percussion. Mohanrangan, a flautist with emerging reputation will provide additional support to all these artistes.
The concert will blend compositions, improvisation and feature traditional as well as specially composed pieces. A few pieces will showcase Ravikiran's Award Winning concept, Melharmony. Melharmony, initiated by Ravikiran in the year 2000, is a unique approach which creates harmony but with an emphasis on the melodic rules of highly evolved scalar music systems.
