(AUSTIN ? December 2005) Austin?s Carnaval BrasileiroTM, now rollicking into its 29th year, as one of the largest Rio-style carnaval celebrations outside Brazil, is now slated to debut in the Boston, Massachusetts, market February 18, 2006. Austin?s Carnaval BrasileiroTM now attracts more than 5,500 attendees to an event Texas Monthly has dubbed the year?s ?Best Public Bash.?

Parent corporation Austin-based FestaMundoTM, announced this week that Boston is just the first of several expansion cities for Austin?s now legendary Brazilian bash.
?We chose Boston as the logical first step,? said FestaMundo head Mike Quinn, ?because the area hosts more than 250,000 university students and the state of Massachusetts has a Brazilian population approaching 600,000. We already are thrilled with the response we?ve received from the community, including several sponsors including the Boston Phoenix media corporation, Jurys Boston Hotel and Boston?s local Anheuser-Busch distributor. It?s really been overwhelming, and we?re just getting started.?

Quinn believes that the upcoming JetBlue service between Austin and Boston,
scheduled to begin January 19, 2006, will create additional synergy between the two cities, already united by high tech, academics and music. ?The ultimate signal that this connection between Texas and Massachusetts is a solid one might be a new food item we could feature at Carnaval in Boston and Austin, some sort of Brazilian-spiced barbecued lobster enchiladas,? Quinn mused.

Carnaval Brasileiro Boston will take place at The Castle at Park Plaza, one of
Boston?s most distinctive landmark buildings, located in the very heart of Boston?s Back Bay nightlife district. Quinn projects a capacity attendance of 1,800 for the event?s first outing. ?We wanted to keep the party relatively small the first couple of years,? he said, ?that way we can create an amazing buzz about the party as we turn away those not lucky enough to have bought their tickets early.? Austin?s Carnaval has sold out almost every year since its beginning in 1978.

Now a local institution attracting partygoers from all over the United States,
Carnaval Brasileiro began in the early 1970s to soothe homesick Brazilian students. The flamboyant costumes, the driving Brazilian samba, and the uninhibited, spirited atmosphere have earned Carnaval its reputation as one of the best and biggest such festivities outside Brazil.

In its July/August 2005 issue, Hispanic magazine picked Austin as the number one best city for Hispanics to settle, and among its primary rationale for this choice was the presence of Austin?s annual Carnaval Brasileiro. The event attracts partygoers from across the country and continues to build its base within the local market as well. Quinn expects 6,000 to attend this year?s party in Austin scheduled for February 4, 2006.
?We have nearly maxed out our space at the Palmer Events Center,? lamented Quinn, ?so we decided it was time to expand outside our primary market. Boston will be our test case, but we are studying a number of other cities on the East and West Coasts. We have already registered a number of Internet addresses in anticipation of our future growth,? Quinn stated. ?Initially we are considering locales with a concentration of college students, and with a healthy population of Brazilians or other international populations. We currently appeal to a very broad spectrum of the population in our home market of Austin, but as we expand into new cities, it is clearly easy to target the most likely demographic groups for an event such as ours. Our growth will only be limited by the number of Saturday nights we can squeeze into February and March each year, the prime season for Mardi Gras and
Carnaval.
