Apostolos Georgopoulos is Regents Professor of Neuroscience, McKnight Presidential Chair in Cognitive Neuroscience, American Legion Brain Sciences Chair, and Director of the Center for Cognitive Sciences at the University of Minnesota. His current research focuses on "Brain Mechanisms of Movement and Cognition; Functional Brain Biomarkers; Cortical Networks." Three major goals of his research include: First, to elucidate the neural mechanisms underlying motor control and cognitive processing; second, to develop functional brain biomarkers for various brain diseases; and third, to understand the workings of developing cortical networks.

Most recently, Prof. Georgopoulos's research has resulted in a major breakthrough in the study of post-traumatic stress disorder.
