Who: Boston Landmarks Orchestra, in partnership with the City of Boston, Thomas M. Menino, Mayor, the Boston Parks and Recreation Department and the Boston Red Sox.

What: Salute the Red Sox is an all-American program featuring a special performance of Julian Wachner’s Lifting The Curse: A Story of the Red Sox, with text by Bill Littlefield, commissioned by the Landmarks Orchestra in 2006 and other works by Copland, Sousa and John Williams. The piece will be narrated by NECN’s sports anchor Chris Collins. It will also be performed on August 8 at 7 p.m. at the Hatch Shell on the Esplanade.

When: Sunday, August 12 at 6 p.m.
Where: Dorchester Park in Dorchester

Why: Conductor Charles Ansbacher founded the Boston Landmarks Orchestra in 2001 to perform free concerts celebrating historical, geographical and architectural settings. By presenting exceptional music performances in significant settings, the Orchestra fosters a broad appreciation of classical music while bringing together the area’s diverse communities. Five years ago, the Orchestra began the Landmarks Concerts for Children to foster the appreciation of classical music in young audiences, and to sponsor the creation of new classical works specifically developed for children.
