Eight comics who, after competing with 98 of the nation's funniest up-and-comers, make it past the preliminary and semi-final rounds, will vie for $10,000 in prize money. In addition, the Finals will feature the presentation of the Boston Comedy Festival and Emerson College's first annual lifetime achievement awards to Dorchester native and king of the malapropism, Norm Crosby, a comedy veteran known for his appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show, The Tonight Show and The Dean Martin Show, and Jonathan Winters, mercurial improv genius, who has spent half a century making people laugh and paving the way for many of the great comics who came later. Crosby will be on hand to receive his award and perform. Winters received his in a taped ceremony, which will be played at the Finals, earlier this year. Steven Wright will also be honored on Sept. 16, as Comedian of the Year, and will be present to receive his award, but will not perform.
