PETER BEHRENS is a native of Montreal where he was educated at Lower Canada College, Concordia University, and McGill. He held a Wallace Stegner Fellowship in Creative Writing at Stanford University, and was a Fellow at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, Massachusetts. His collection of short stories, NIGHT DRIVING was published in 1987. Stories and essays have appeared in Tin House, Brick, Best Canadian Stories (twice), Best Canadian Essays, The Atlantic Monthly, and many anthologies.

The Governor General's Award, Canada's oldest and most prestigious award for English-and French-speaking Canadian literature, celebrates important contributions to Canadian writing. Past recipients of this award include Margaret Atwood, Michael Ondaatjie, Alice Munro and Rohinton Mistry.
