FLAMES OF LOVE & DECEPTION ERRUPT IN “BONFIRE NIGHT,”
FIRST PLAY IN TRIOLOGY SET AGAINST 1960’S ENGLAND

Cast Includes Award-winning actor Darnell Williams, “Jesse” from All My Children

WHAT: BONFIRE NIGHT, first play in a trilogy of works that focuses on the migration of Caribbean peoples to the UK in the 1940s and what has happened to that community since then.

Set in 1968, BONFIRE NIGHT centers around the lives of Cynthia and Lorna Johnson, Jamaican immigrants to Birmingham, England. Cynthia a fading beauty and Lorna, her 30-something daughter have settled into a hopeless yet comfortable routine living life together in their old house. But a fateful evening set against the backdrop of November 5th Guy Fawkes Day-Bonfire Night, makes the flames no match for the inferno that will consume Cynthia if Lorna, makes the leap to the happy life she desperately craves with her secret suitor, Reggie.

BONFIRE NIGHT is the first production of BLACKBOARD reading series, a series that tells the stories of the Black Community throughout the Diaspora. Created by Garlia C. Jones and held every 2nd Monday at the Cell 7:30 pm www.blackboardplays.com
