Scheherazade
Andris Nelsons, conductor; Jonathan Biss, piano. Mendelssohn: The Hebrides Overture, “Fingal’s Cave”; Beethoven: Piano Concerto No. 2; Rimsky-Korsakov: Scheherazade. The Hebrides Overture was inspired by Mendelssohn’s travels through Scotland and depicts “Fingal’s Cave.” The cadenza in Beethoven’s Concerto No. 2 is extravagant and powerful. Scheherazade musically illustrates the incredible story of One Thousand and One Nights with Eastern melodies and virtuosic violin solos.
