Ludovic Morlot, conductor; Sarah Chang, violin; Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh. Weber: Overture to Oberon; Bruch: Violin Concerto No. 1; Tower: Sequoia; Ravel: Suite No.2 from Daphnis et Chloé. French conductor Ludovic Morlot makes his PSO debut with the Overture to Weber’s Oberon, an opera based on the king of the fairies in Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Joan Tower’s Sequoia is one of her first award-winning compositions. Suite No. 2 from Daphnis et Chloé is a ballet score and one of Ravel’s most passionate works. Sarah Chang, winner of the prestigious Avery Fisher Prize, performs the ever-popular Bruch Concerto No. 1.
