between Marine Drive and Sandy Boulevard off Northeast 223rd Avenue
Fairview, Oregon

The Blue Lake Triathlon was started back in 1983 by the Portland Triathlon Association and a sporting goods store in downtown Portland that has since closed it's doors. It has undergone a great deal of change over the past 20+ years including the addition of a Sprint distance Triathlon, as well as a Sprint & Olympic distance duathlon.

Recognized by NW triathletes as the "must do" event to open the triathlon season, the 2008 Blue Lake Triathlon will again be split into a two-day event (Sprint event on Saturday & Olympic event on Sunday). This two-day fun filled weekend will include a sports expo, and the Olympic distance event will serve as the TRI NorthWest Club/Team Championship. Triathlon Clubs from across the NW will converge on Blue Lake Park to compete for the boasting rights as the top club of athletes in the region.

The bike portion of the event is flat and fast with the majority of it on a section of Marine Dr that is closed to all but local traffic. This makes this course one of the safest and fastest in the region. The Sprint course falls entirely on this portion of Marine Dr and participants rarely encounter a vehicle. The Olympic course has a 7-mile section that goes south towards I-84 to the Troutdale Airport and back on quiet, lightly traveled county roads.
