Birney Imes: Selections From Partial to Home - Photographs of Mississippi April 17, 2011

Birney Imes is a lifelong resident of Columbus, Mississippi, where he is still Editor and Publisher of The Dispatch, the area's daily newspaper. 'Partial to Home' is a candid exploration of African-American culture over a ten-year period in a region of Mississippi that fiercely resists change. Many of these early black-and-white photographs were taken during the reasearch and photography for 'Juke Joint,' the series of color photographs for which he is widely known.
